This novel began as a personal challenge, due to the author’s admiration of foreign works that rescued legends and mythologies of their own territories and fed his imagination from an early age. His main inspirations were Tolkien and Hayao Miyazaki, the latter mainly for the respect of nature and magical beings he demonstrated in every film and inspired generations of writers. Fifteen years ago, the author started researching Chilean ethnic cultural heritage, especially Mapuche mythology and associated characters. He was amazed at the striking similarity between Mapuche and foreign mythology. As a lifelong artist, the author first began to translate all these legends into paintings, which turned into a colorful symbolic expression. A few years later, in preparation for his written adventure, he further developed the characters placing them in historical context and particular time in Tomé. Finally committing them to paper, the mythological characters have been immortalized in this novel for future generations to enjoy. The novel is currently being revised and edited, while the author secures financing for publication and dissemination. Simultaneously, the author has also designed and developed sculptures, pictures and illustrations of the main characters in the Mapuche mythology as Ngnen, Sumpall, Cuchivulu and Camahueto, among others. These artistic projects will not only help promote the book, but capture a younger audience in an entertaining and educational way, exposing a younger generation to our mythological roots.

The novel unfolds in late 1800s, when the milling and fishing industries dominated the economy and the main market was abroad. At that time, Chile was still in a dispute with Spain, who in a brilliant move, took the Tomé Bay and bombed its piers. This impacted the milling industry, and not long after the tragedy, the local encamp was revived by the textile industry.

The main storyline of this novel unfolds within a historical setting and is framed by the confrontation between a Machi and a Kalku, who used their magic against the humble Montes Grandón family. The adventure begins when the father of this family, a veteran of the Pacific War, is fired from the local milling company and out of desperation, goes in search of treasure with friends. After finding a treasure map, the children fear the worst after receive no news from their father and set-out on a rescue mission. Thus the adventure began for Montes brothers, who are involved in battles with great mythological beings in a parallel world full of magic, exotic beauty and fantasy.
